Maths Buddy

During Week 5 I have been doing Maths Buddy. The task I have been doing is Term 4 week 4. It is basically a set of questions hat the teacher sets for us. I am 1/2 way through the task. I have gt 5 questions wrong but I am learning how to do them. There are questions like 1/3 of 120. I am hoping I pass the tasks.

Reading

Today, we did Reciprocal Reading. Reciprocal Reading is where a group of people come together to read and analyze a piece of writing in a school journal. We did the poem named “Early” written by Rachel Bush.

Here’s the poem:

“The Darkness wears a quiet sound

of fires died down and people who stir

in sleep. Soon they will slip on

their daily selves, button them up.

A rooster knows the time, says

it out loud when the day is less

than a light line above the hills 

A car hitches its shoulders,

decides to keep going.

It's lights make holes in the night.

One ruru calls

its own name.

It's wings are invisible.

They make no sound.”

This poem is about nighttime, and all of the things that happen in the night. The first paragraph details the day turning to night. The second paragraph details a rooster, telling us about how the rooster clucks when the night comes.

Paragraph three tells us about a car, driving in the night. The car turns on its headlights, illuminating the dark road. The last paragraph talks about an owl hooting, and how the owl is nearly silent in the dead of nights.

Dressing up on Halloween

Yesterday T4 were put into groups. One of the activities was dressing up. Did you know that we dress up on Halloween so the evil spirits dont recognise us? For example a mask or disguises is pretty good. The practice if dressing up in costumes and begging door-to-door for treats on holidays goes back to the Middle ages. Costumes really took off with the rise of trick or treating. I am the girl in the green wig. I dont even know what I was but I think it was very creative and it was really fun.

Halloween Story

Today is Halloween and T4 spent the first block doing Halloween activities in my group I have; Jake, Riley, Taylor, Junior, Niah, Me and Nova. We had to write a story based on the book: The Hollow Woods.

Rugby World Cup

During the end of Term 3 and the start of Term 4 we have been looking at the rugby world cup. We had to do some tasks about it. We had to make paper sushi display, a Japanese slide, try on kimonos which are Japanese dresses that they wear. I had completed all 3 tasks. I would like to look around more kimonos and try more on. I have made a blog post about Kimonos. Go cheek it out.

Grandparents day

Today Grey Main school had Grandparents day. Grandparents day is when your grandparents come into school and show you what they have been learning. Today Mrs Gully gave us a task to complete. The task was that we had to right down some questions and your grandparents had to answer them. E.g What is a memorable day when you went to school? I had 3 of my Grandparents come into the school and I asked them the questions I also got my hand print and 2 of my granddads hand prints. I enjoyed seeing them and showing them all my work I have done

Figure it out | A fair dip

Today during Maths Group 3 did Figure it out. Hannah George and I did a fair dip. This was hard at the start but then it started to get easy for us 3. There were 5 questions but one of them was too hard for us. We only ended up doing 3 of 5 questions...

The first question was: What do you need to find out first? We said what ingredients do they need and how much do they need.

The second question was: The costs are given for a different proportions of the product for sale. How can you work around this. We didn't do this question because it was too hard for us.

The third question was: Will the class make a profit on the current pricing? Yes because they are only charging $2 for a strawberry because I think a lot of people will buy it because they are cheap and they have chocolate on the bottom.

Kimonos

Have you heard of a kimono? Well I have... Today in Totara 4 Mrs Gully bought in about 7 Kimonos to show us. We all had a go wearing them. We all had fun with them and got our photos done. Shilah and I wore this full black Kimono then put a White towel on our head. Here are some photos of my friends and I wearing the Kimonos.

The amazing adventures of superstan

On 7th of August Karoro school came to Grey Main to see the play; The amazing adventures if Superstan! It was an awesome day and everyone was laughing at the jokes. There was this one boy who was being very rude by breaking the schools property and talking all the way through when we were all trying our best not to pay attention to that. A boy called Stanley Marvel does not know that he is a... SUPERHERO! His grandmother Ruby Marvel gives him the other half of the formula to turn him into... Superstan. But then he sees the Candy king which is his Grandfather that "died" in the war. But then they shrink him with his candy cane shrink ray. 3 cheers to Superstan!

Wearable arts 2019

This week we have been getting ready for wearable arts on 25th of September on Wednesday night at 7pm. In my group I have Shilah and Shakeira. Our model is Me ( Charlotte). We all get along really well. We also cant wait for Wednesday night and hopefully it will be a blast. We have taken a lot of thought into this and thought really carefully.

Basic Facts

This term in Totara 4 we have been doing basic facts. We used to do 7 minutes but now we have moved down to 5 minutes. This has defiantly increased my learning this term. My times have gotten faster and my scores have gone all the way up to that 100 mark. Hopefully my time goes down because at the moment i'm up to 3 minutes I would love to get down to 2 minutes.

Jake Bailey's experience

On the 1st of August Jake Bailey who had cancer came to Grey Main and told us his journey with Cancer. He had Chemotherapy. Jake was diagnosed when he was just 18.  When he got told he got diagnosed with cancer he didn't feel anything when he got told. He said to us that you DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE SMALL THINGS! You just find something that makes you happy and you dream big. Months after he found out that he would survive he was grateful that he survived and he was respectful to the children that are our age that didn't. Jake has also wrote a book called; What Cancer taught me.

Hanmer Camp

Last week on Wednesday Totara 4 and 3 went to Hanmer Springs Camp.
We had such a BLAST!! Here are some photos of Camp.

On the first night we had a quiz night and my team Won 1st place. In my team was Rykar, Shilah, Junior, Me, Abbie, Briea and Taylor. and we had so much fun and we were called Jamaican people.

This week we have been learning Area and Perimeter.

Maths Maintenance

For the past 4 weeks back at school we have been doing maths maintenance.That is where we get daily 10 questions and we have to solve them.The hardest question was the roman numerals but I finally learned them.I normally get 10/10 here is one from last week. I find maths Maintenance really fun. Place value is also what we have to do in the maths maintenance. For example if I had 2,801 what is the value of the 8? It would be 800 because when you do ones, tens, hundreds. So it would be 800👍.

Swimming Sports

On Friday the 15th Grey Main School had their Swimming sports. It went on all day.
The races I entered for was:
25m breaststroke
50m breaststroke

25m Backstroke
50m Backstroke

25m Freestyle
50m Freestyle

I was in the relay too in my team I had Rowan, Nikau, Zyah and myself. I came first in all my races but we came 3rd in the relay.That means I am going to Grey District and make my school proud!
