Current Events

Today Mrs Prendergast and Totara 3 done Current events quiz, there was a question about Adele and her losing weight, If you want to know how and why then keep reading.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins losing just about 50 pounds in 13 months. We all know Adele right? You know the one who sings:

And all those other amazing songs. Yes her. Shes Gorgeous right!! Wondering how and why she lost weight?
The reason why she lost weight is because she has cut down drinking and is eating more real food. It doesn't matter what shape or size anyone is everyone is beautiful just the way they are.

How did she loose weight? Adele tried using the sirtfood diet which encourages to eat plant foods.

Kei Hea? ~ Where

This week during Te - Reo we have been learning:

Muri: Behind

Mua: In front

Raro: Under or Below

Runga: Above or on

Roto: In

With these words we had to make them into sentences by choosing a object that includes these words for example: Kei Runga i te turu te raku. That means The Pen is on the chair. Mrs Prendergast gave us a challenge or task to do at least 5 sentences in Maori on a different slide for every slide. This is my slide.

Interchange with Miss Prendergast

 During one of the weeks With Miss Prendergast in interchange we had a task to do a board game based on a voyage to Aotearoa ( New Zealand ).

We had a choice of working by our self or with a partner. I chose to be with a partner so I was with Porsha.

In our board game we had to include: Step backs or Move forwards.

On of my favourite push backs is: A whale - 0 - swallows you go back to the start.

My favourite move forwards: The waves pull you forwards go up a space.

Porsha added stars to show the navigation to New Zealand.

After we had included all of the instructions we needed we decided to decorate it with colour.

I am very happy with how this turned out and was definitely one of the best activities I have done with Miss P.

Narrative Writing

This week Mrs Prendergast gave us a task to complete about a narrative writing. So I done my experience about Christchurch with a twist that is fiction. So here is mine

What country has made a vaccine for covid - 19?

 Have you heard of the deadly virus that has been going around for roughly 9 months?

Covid - 19 has killed 1 person on the west coast in New Zealand, and 1,654 have confirmed cases in New Zealand. 1,531 people have recovered from the virus.

But luckily China has found a vaccine for Covid and are healing a bunch of people. If the vaccine gets around the world it will heal everyone with Covid.

My questions I have for this is:

1. What is in the vaccine? 

2. How did they get this idea?

3. How does this vaccine work and what does it contain?

My opinion if this gets around the world is " If the vaccine does get to everyone with covid will it cure them depending on how bad it is? ".

My opinion on how this information got around: " I think he or she took their time to go around and gather up all the information and made the right choice to let it out to the world ".

Current Events Review

2 walkers who went missing in Kahurangi National Park in June were found alive and well. How many days did they go missing for?

If you said B you were correct they were missing for 19 days, They were well and healthy.

They got lost through fog and they got injured in a fall.

They went missing on May 2 and were found on May 21st.

Interchange on Mondays

Every Monday for the next 9 weeks Totara hub is doing interchange. Mrs Prendergast my teacher is doing New Zealand history. Miss Power the leader of Totara hub is doing Science experiments. Miss Hines is doing around the world.

Last week with Mrs Prendergast we did learning about the ancestors of the Maoris. I learnt new things about my culture and I am proud to be a Maori.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------With Miss Power we done spinning water this was fun and one of us spun it too fast and the cup broke when it hit the ground and everyone in my group got wet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------When Totara 3 went to Miss Hines we had to find all the continents in the world. Did you know there are six continents? I thought there was seven until I learnt about them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------There are still 9 weeks to go with interchange and I cant wait to see what is going to happen with that.

Matariki creating

For the creating task I done a "How do different countries celebrate Matariki.
My countries were: NZ, Australia, Samoa, Tonga and Fiji.
How does your country, Town or family celebrate Matariki? My family and I go to the beach and release lanterns into the sky when it is dark.

For Matariki analysing I chose to do "Why does Matariki not stay around all year?"
For this one you had to explain why Matariki does not stay around all year.
I found out some new things about Matariki. I thought Matariki would stay for 2 - 3 days, but did you know it stays around for 11 months?!

Mrs Prendergast gave us another 6 options for the Applying activities.
So I decided to do the lantern flying. For this activitie you would have to make a poster or invitation for lantern flying. You would have include Who, When, Why and where.
I hope you will come to see the lantern flying. Or you come fly a lantern. ( Its not real )

Matariki Understanding

Another one of the activities is understanding. We got given 6 options and I chose to do "Why was Matariki important to the early Maoris."
We had to include Why, When, Who and what. I added a extra slide of a "did you know?"
This took me about 1 day to do and I think this turned out okay.

Matariki Remembering

This week Totara 3 have been working on Matariki for the Maori new year.
There is: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analysing, Evaluating, Creating.
Reading this will represent what the seven sisters and 2 brothers represent.
This is my one.

Maths Buddy

This week Totara 3 was given 4 maths buddy tasks to do over the week.
The task was called: Solid shapes 2
They were: Top side and front view, What solid will this net make. Repeating that again but with different questions.
My results were: 70 90 and 100%. I had to do the last task again because I got 70 but then I got 100.

What's In The News This Week?

Right now imagine you are Kylie Jenner. You are a 22 year old cosmetic model and your net worth is $900 million dollars!

There are 210 episodes of Keep up with the Kardashians. Keep up with the Kardashians is a very popular reality tv show. The series is worth more than Kylie. 

Kylie has been in the news recently and is now classified as a millionaire not a billionaire. 

This came surprisingly to me as I would have thought she was a billionaire.

Current events - Michel Jordan's

Today we did Current events, one of the questions was about these shoes:

The Air Jordan 1's which Michael Jordan wore in 1985 were bought for 943,000 in New Zealand dollars. That is a lot of money! We had to guess whose shoes they were and we found out that they were his! My  friends and I think his shoes were ugly because they looked really old and dirty. In my opinion they looked like they were thrown in mud.

Did you know Michel Jordan played for the Chicago bulls?
He was the best player of the team. He used to be able to dunk from the 3 throw line, that is a very far throw and dunk. He retired in 2003.

One day I hope to be like Michel Jordan.

Ancient Egypt

This Week we are learning about Ancient Egypt. To work out our topic we were given a set of tasks  to complete.
We had 3 small puzzles to complete, a word scramble and maths equations and after we get the equations right we got given a letter. After we got given our letters we had to see what the letters spelt out. After Isy, Hannah and I figured it out it spelt "Ancient Egypt". This took us all morning and half of the second block to complete.
This was a fun activity to do and hope to do it again.

Current events

Air New Zealand has been celebrating for 80 Years! Did you know that? So I am going to tell you a little about Air New Zealand.

Who: Air New Zealand

Where: New Zealand. Their main hub is Auckland.

When: They celebrated on April 30th 2020, for 80 years.

Why: Chief Marketing and Customer Officer Mike Tod says the 80th anniversary birthday is a time to reflect on milestones and thank New Zealanders for their continued support of the airline.

I think that this was really interesting, I didn't even know that Air New Zealand had been flying for that long.

My Autumn writing

This week Totara 3 got given a task to do about Autumn, We had to start with a plan about objects and other stuff that have to do with Autumn. Once Mrs Prendergast had checked it off we had to write our story. Then when she has seen it we had to post it our blog. So here is mine.

I look around up and down and I can see a beautiful blue sky, with white
clouds. In the distance light grey clouds are rushing through the wind.
Mountains cover the beautiful sky on this warm sunny day, making a
silhouette on the road behind me.

The autumn trees shake their golden hair until there's nothing left.
The trees that reach up to the midday sky are like twisted hands.
Their trunks are rough like a crocodile’s spine.

Woosh! What is that I hear? I can hear the nice cool wind gushing through
the neighbourhood. As I am walking around the back yard I can see and feel
the leaves flying everywhere and up the back of my legs. The wind is so
powerful that the clothes on the line are flying all over the place.

I can see green, brown, red, gold and yellow leaves all over the grass like a
multicoloured disco floor. As I take a step on the grass… CRACK!
I hear the leaves crackle on the bottom of my shoes.

This week Mrs Prendergast gave us a task to complete. It is a Photo album. We had to pretend that we were in Antarctica and get photos from google and make a slideshow about what animal or what you are doing and make it eye catching. Here is mine.

My favourite Holiday destination is when me and my friend Allie went to Hanmer springs for my birthday and New Years.
Last year I went there for my school camp. It was soo fun we stayed at the Forest camp. At the forest camp you can go Mountain biking, Orienteering around the forest and Tree climbing. When we were there we done all of them.
When Allie and I were there we stayed at my aunties motel. We went to the pools we done the maze and we won against my nana, sister and cousin. Allie and I went to the abandoned hospital and it was really scary. Because there was chairs stacked on top of each other. Went to the lollie shop and there was so many to  choose from. We also went shopping, thee wasn't really a lot to buy. We also went to the pool. We went there everyday all day!
There is a lot of things you can do there even though it is a small town.

Kia Ora, Back today with another Blog Post about... Movies!
I am going to tell you about my top 3 movies.

#1. Coming in with number 1 is Sinister 2. Sinister 2 is a great movie it is a horror movie. Not recommended for 8 years under. It is about 2 boys, Twins. They can see ghosts and every night Dylan one of the twins go down and see Milo, one of the ghosts and watch the movies. Zachery then tells Dylan that he can see the ghosts too.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------#2. Number 2 is Titanic. You probably have heard of Titanic and the myth how they crash into the Ice berg. I love this movie because one of my favourite characters in it. Can you guess who it is?... Did you guess Jack / Leonardo DiCaprio? You guessed right! He is such a good actor and does a fantastic job playing Jack.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------#3. Number 3 is possibly Fallen. It is a movie about good and bad magic. Angels that choose love over Heaven. This teenage boy Daniel has been in love with Luce for over 1000 years! That is along time. Then a boy Cam tries to change Luce's mind to go for him, because Luce is not baptised and Cam offers her a future. But he is Jealous of Daniel and Luce's love together.

My special Place

I come home from school and go upstairs to my special place. When I first walk in I see
my bed. It is very messy because I didn’t make it this morning.

I look to the left and I see my makeup everywhere it looks like there was a tornado in
here! I also see that I have a Black, white and grey theme going on in my room.

As I walk in I can hear my cat meowing because he's happy that I’m home. As I place my
bag down I can hear my clock ticking in my ear repeatedly. As I find some clothes to
change into I can hear birds outside my balcony wanting attention. I hear my sister
opening my door slowly as it creaks. 

I can smell my perfume that I sprayed this morning before school, I think I had sprayed
too much. I can smell the fresh air coming through my windows and my door leading to my
balcony. I can also smell something horrible, my dirty wet towel that I left in my room
this morning.

When I get all my chores done I feel relieved that I can lie down and relax. But then I
start to get breathless because I can hear my sister walking down the hallway as I try to
have time to myself. I hear her turn into her room, I get excited because she is not going
to come and annoy me and make a mess in my room as I had just finished cleaning.

Photographs

Today I am going to tell you about a favourite memory. This is one of my favourites, I have amazing friends we have drifted but we are still friends. We talk on social media and sometimes at school. We took this photo because we made a hype house account on tik tok.
----------------------------------------------------------At the top we have Skylah, she is very kind and a good friend, she is also in my class this year.
In the middle row to the left is Shilah we don't talk as much but we are friends and have good memories with her, she is in my class too. Then next to Shilah is Isy, Isy is my Best friend as you can tell. She is a good friend and supportive and kind.
At the bottom left is Summer, She is probably the funniest out of all of us. She is kind and funny asss. Then next is Zyah. We dont talk as much as we used to. We are still friends. Then there is me, I am probably the stupid, phone crazy one. Then last is Nia, she is one of the kindest girls I know.
We then took our own paths and separated about 3 weeks later. We see each other around school and say Hi and thats about it. We have drama with each other all time.

The funniest people I know

Kia Ora, Today I am going to tell you about the 2 funniest people I know. If you really want to know who they are and to see how funny they are keep reading.

#1: Coming in at number 1 we have Isy.
Isy is a very funny person. She is always funny and she is always being crazy when we are on a video call together. She pulls faces at the camera, like a monkey mocking a human being. She even sends me funny Snapchat photos and videos. Even on tik tok.

Hannah she is crazy, funny and even tooo funny and crazy. She tells funny jokes and is always loud and making Isy and I laugh soo much that we don't know how loud we are! She is like Isy sending funny photos and Videos to Isy and I.

About my best friend Isy

Here is a blog post about my best friend Isy...
Have you got a best friend? Well I have her name is Isy.
She goes to my school and is a Year 8, She is in my class to.
Here is some stuff about our friendship.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------How we met?: The first thing behind a friendship is how did they meet. Me and Isy met when she first started Grey Main in 2019. When we first spoke she seemed very nice. We started talking more and more. We both had a friend called Zyah. Then all 3 of us had heaps of arguments, but we always made up.

What happened?: At first it seemed fine. But then when we became close we started getting into drama and fighting A LOT!! But Isy and I always made up. We are kind of still friends with the others.

When we became friends: We first started becoming friends this year when we got put into the same classroom. We also went to a netball camp called Te Wai. We had heaps of drama there between me and her. Then we came to school we got really close as you know. We still are we have been best friends for about 2 months now.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------How does Isy make me feel?: Isy makes me feel confident when I am down. She is always making me laugh sometimes she makes me laugh too much that I cant breath. Every time I see her I always smile. We do everything together and we always will.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What is happening now?: Right now with our friendship we are still the same. We are always there for each other. We are always calling and non stop talking in real life and on social media. We have very funny photos of each other. Ever since we first became the bestest of friends we have been inseparable. We call every night and talk all day. It is very hard not to see Isy due to lock down. But when we see each other next we will never stop talking about how much we missed each other.

Hide and Seek Poem

Hide and seek

We got given a activity to write a poem about a experience we were playing hide and seek
so here is mine...

My game of hide and seek starts hiding if you are the hider and the seeker has to find
somewhere to count so they don't see the other players.

I'm imagining I am hiding in a place up high, just about higher than a giraffe's neck.
Not too high that I will hurt myself, and not so low that the seeker will see me.

I can see kids playing, Jumping, spinning, skipping. I can hear birds whistling in the trees.
I can hear the wind blowing in the winter outdoors.

I feel afraid that I am so high off the ground. But it is worth it if I want to win this game.
I got so hot that I could see the water tap and I started drooling because I was that hot!

The game ended with a winner. Not me. I didn't go high enough.
I got found by the other seekers after 2 people got found. But it's just a game.

What's in the news this week?

Where this occurred: This occurred in Cairo, Egypt.
When: March the 12th 2020.
Who was involved with this?: People who were living in Cairo got involved because their property was damaged.
Why did this happen: This would of happened because it would of been raining too much and the drains couldn't handle that much water so it started to flood...
What made this happen: The rain made this happen...
How could we fix this: We could fix this by helping them and donating money to them to help them fix their home town.

Welcome back to my Blog...
Have you had a good holiday? Because I have...
This year I am a year 8, then I am off to high school.
This year I have been  put in Mrs. Prendergast class.
I have had a very good start to the year so far.
1 of my goals I would like to achieve at my last year of school is to complete all my work in the  time the teacher gives me.
So far I have been doing all my work in the given time frame.
I also want to stay out of drama with others and focus on my work.
